What’s So Funny ‘Bout is a project created for a graduate art education colloquium class at Penn State with the theme of Subversive Humor. My month-long project consisted of 32 physical postcards I created digitally using postcard apps on my iPhone and were sent via USPS to my home address, 27 postcards sent by friends and family, an installation consisting of the 59 postcards, and a blog. The project addressed the navigation of my new situation of graduate school in a new environment of Pennsylvania, exploring and exposing relationships of disparate elements, sometimes noting ironies, juxtapositions, oppositions, or commonalities. This was an arts-based, auto-ethnographic research project in which I explored and subverted myself through narrative and reflective writing.
The project installation was included in an exhibition with the other participants in the Subversive Humor in Visual Culture colloquium and was on display in the Borland Gallery at Penn State University from December 10 – 14, 2012.
